Night Shift Questions

Just reaching out for some ideas on getting employees to work the night shift. We only run a skeleton shift but it is necessary to keep our projects on track and get more utilization out of our machines. We have had a night shift for years and have worked with the policy that all new hires have to spend at least a year on the night shift. Usually that year is around the 3rd year after their hire date. We have had a core group of 2 or 3 that enjoy the shift and have been there for a long time. But now we are looking at expanding it and are looking for options to make it more appealing to more guys without having to force them.

We currently work 4 nights and have a $2 differential.

Any thoughts?

Afternoon shift is the one that we have issues filling. We are currently contemplating making it a 10hr M-Th shift with OT on Fridays (no Saturdays) to see if we can encourage some people to jump to this shift. Granted it will create 2 hrs overlap with our midnight shift but we can make this productive as there is equipment available to run.
